That hurts.
I've spent the last five years racking my brain to find the right things to say at the right time, to make myself understood, to pass the right message, to express the right feelings, and believe me, being a native French speaker doesn't make it easy (see this post to know why I started speaking English with my children). And now he's asking me to stop speaking English? If I listened to myself I would say YESSS!! Ok no prob sweetie I'll stop right away, thank you so much to give me permission!!
But I can't. Not when I came all this way up to his 5th birthday! 5 years speaking English.
Yeepee. Congrats myself!
I am so often discouraged by him, by the fact it's so difficult to master enough vocab to express everything I need to, by people judging or still asking why I am speaking English with my kids, by my father saying that if Leo has a little speech defect, it's because I'm talking English to him...
Luckily, Little Miss is less harsh with me and just doesn't complain. She will even repeat a sentence in English if I ask her to.
I often wonder if I am doing the right thing tho... As a friend told me yesterday, many adults can speak another language even if they weren't bilingual since childhood...
Uh, I'll give it a thought.
